Madagascar

Formerly the Malagasy Republic, Madagascar is an island in the Indian Ocean. It is the largest island on the African continent and lies southeast of the coast. In terms of tourism, Madagascar has huge potential for growth. However, the sector is still somewhat underdeveloped. Its unique flora and fauna are complemented by an incredibly diverse landscape, which is made up of rainforest and desert. The island is a biodiversity hotspot. Over 90 per cent of its wildlife cannot be found anywhere else on Earth, making the island a unique attraction. Madagascar is also a major producer of precious stones. The country is one of the world’s largest producers of sapphire, topaz, amethyst, ruby, emerald, tourmaline and spinel.
