This discovery was achieved due to a partnership between the University of Leicester, Leicester City Council and the Richard III Society. Richard III was one of England’s most famous monarchs and his body was lost for many years until it was finally found in 2013 under a car park where Greyfriars Church used to stand. After the discovery, scientists were able to sequence the monarch’s genome using his bones making him the first figure in history to have his genome completely sequenced.
