Natural Sites to Discover in the World - Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, Japan

Although only around 500 metres long, the Arashiyama bamboo forest is a place not to be missed if you visit Japan. It consists mainly of the Moso Bamboo species (Phyllostachys edulis) and is made up of several small walks that can be visited and it is also considered by the Ministry of the Environment to be a part of the landscape of Japan. To locals, bamboo represents strength, prosperity and is reputed to ward off evil forces, so it is well treated and preserved by all.
