For many years, the archaeological site of Stonehenge was believed to be the oldest of its kind, but the discovery of this structure in Türkiye in the 1960s changed that whole paradigm. Scientists were able to date this structure and found it to be over 11,000 years old despite the fact that at this time it was classified as a medieval burial ground. Although it was forgotten about for a few years, studies came back in 2008 that confirmed its age and were thus able to confirm that it was indeed the world’s oldest man-made structure.
