4 – São Tomé and Príncipe
São Tomé and Príncipe is one of Africa’s smallest countries. It is made up of two islands, with São Tomé as the capital. It is also one of the poorest, least developed and most indebted countries in the world, and is currently in the middle of an oil dispute between the USA, China and Taiwan. Tourism in São Tomé and Príncipe revolves around its beaches, fishing and visits to historical and natural areas. It is recorded as receiving around 8,000 visitors a year. Visitors have, however, been put off by the political and economic situation of the country.
