6 – The Comoros
The Comoros is an island located in the north of Madagascar and the capital is Moroni. It is a poor country dependent on its fishing, exports and, largely, on money sent home by its diaspora. The country boasts beautiful natural landscapes, biodiversity, an important historical heritage and a very rich culture. What appears to stop more tourists visiting is a market that is already saturated, despite being part of the Vanilla Islands collective, which includes Madagascar, Mauritius and the Seychelles. Only around 24,000 visitors have been recorded, in spite of the country’s efforts to attract more tourists.
