The Best Movies of All Time according to IMDB - The Godfather - 1972

The Godfather is a 1972 US film directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The film was produced by Albert S. Ruddy, from Paramount Pictures. It is based on the book of the same name by Mario Puzo, who adapted the script together with Coppola and Robert Towne. Towne, however, didn’t receive recognition. It stars Marlon Brando and Al Pacino as the leaders of a powerful, fictitious, criminal family in New York, set between 1945 and 1955. Paramount Pictures bought the rights to the novel for 80,000 dollars before its success. The executives of the studio had problems finding a director. The first candidates rejected the post before Coppola signed to direct the film. In the 45 Academy Awards, it won Oscars for the Best Film, Best Actor (Brando) and Best Adapted Screenplay (for Puzo and Coppola).
